How to buy at Kent Auction Galleries

If you find an item in our catalogues that you love and just have to own, then you can bid directly with us by telephoning 01303 246810 or by sending an email to admin@kentauctiongalleriesltd.co.uk.   Alternatively you can follow the auction live and buy online at www.easyliveauction.com/kent subject to any additional charges levied for using this service.  If you contact us directly your bids will be entered and a confirmation email sent so that you know your bids have been received.  If you have not bought or sold with us before you will need to register with us so please include your name, address and telephone number if you send your bids by email or alternatively we can register you by telephone.

Viewing The Catalogue Online

Our online catalogues are being regularly updated with new items as they come in. You can view them on our own Catalogues page

If you would like to be added to our mailing list please let us know and you will receive an update by email when the catalogue is complete. This is usually the week before the date of the auction when it will also be available to view at www.easyliveauction.com/kent

Printed catalogues are offered for sale on viewing days at a cost of £2 for Victorian & Later Effects Auction & £5 for Antiques & Fine Art Auction

We offer a yearly subscription for our printed catalogues which are sent by post:

Antiques, Fine Furnishings, Art, Fashion & Collectables Catalogue Only £25 for one year
Both Catalogues £60 for one year
(All options include a copy of our Christmas Auction Catalogue)

Specific Interests?
Receive email alerts when we have items that match your interests by simply giving us your email address and a keyword. This can be something general such as ‘stamps’ or ‘books’ or something more specific such as ‘Lalique’ or ‘Cartier’

Viewing
We are open for viewing on the Thursday and Friday before an auction and for one hour before the auction commences.  Our viewing times are as follows:

Thursday 10am to 6pm
Friday 10am to 7pm
Saturday 9am to 10am

Condition Reports
Please remember that the condition of an item is not usually mentioned in the catalogue description and we therefore strongly recommend that if you are unable to view items in person you obtain a condition report by clicking ‘Enquire/Bid’ next to the lot details in our catalogue.

Bidding

In person
If you are attending the auction you must register at reception prior to bidding. You will be given a card with a temporary bidding number. This should be returned to the office after the auction when you come to pay for your items.

Absentee/Commission Bids
Buyers who are unable to attend the auction in person can leave bids either by filling out one of our Commission Bid forms which are available in our saleroom on viewing days or by clicking ‘Enquire/Bid’ next to the lot details in our catalogue. We are also happy to take your commission bids over the telephone. The auctioneer will bid up to your maximum amount on your behalf and will always endeavour to buy the lot as cheaply as possible for you subject to any other bids or reserve prices.  Lots may have a reserve price, which is the confidential minimum selling price previously agreed with the seller. If the bidding fails to reach this price the lot will remain unsold.

Live Bidding Online
Our online auctions are hosted by www.easyliveauction.com/kent giving you the facility to bid live whilst the auction is in progress. Real-time audio brings the excitement of the auction right to your desktop so you can bid from the comfort of your home or from anywhere in the world!  Please note that our online auction software is administered by Easy Live Auctions.

By telephone We can only accept telephone bids for our Antiques & Fine Art Auctions. Telephone lines are limited so please book well in advance of the auction.

Bidding Increments Please note that our minimum bid is £6. When leaving a commission bid, bidding live online or bidding in person our accepted bidding increments are as follows:

£6, £8, £10, £12, £15, £18, £20, £22, £25, £28, £30 – this pattern continues until £50
at £50 bidding increases at a rate of £5
at £100 bidding increases at a rate of £10
at £200 bidding increases at a rate of £20
at £1,000 bidding increases at a rate of £100
at £2,000 bidding increases at a rate of £200
at £3,000 bidding increases at a rate of £250
at £5,000 bidding increases at a rate of £500

The auctioneer may use their discretion regarding increments depending on bidding interest.

After The Auction
Invoices are sent by email after the auction and can be paid online using our secure payment facility. Our payment terms are strictly within 3 days of the auction.

Buyers Premium
All purchases are subject to a buyers premium of 15% of the hammer price. VAT is charged on the premium only, not on the hammer price.

Payment
We accept the following methods of payment:

  • Debit Card – our preferred method of payment
  • Credit Card – a charge of 2.5% is added to payments made using a credit card
  • Cash

Collection
All items should be paid for and collected within 3 days of the auction. Any items not collected within 3 days of the auction will incur a storage charge of £5 per day per lot unless by prior arrangement.
Kent Auction Galleries Ltd. accepts no liability if condition differs from that stated at the time of purchase if items are not collected within this time.

Delivery & Shipping
We offer a delivery service throughout Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Essex and parts of London for larger items such as furniture. Charges are based on a cost of £25 per hour for 1 man or £35 per hour for 2 men including time taken for loading/unloading, transporting and distance between premises.

We offer a packing service and can take your items to the Post Office to be sent by Royal Mail. Where this is not cost effective you are welcome to arrange your own collection by courier. Packing fees are chargeable dependent on the size/quantity of items. Please contact us for further details or send a shipping request after the auction.
